close to being the evening news

I reached office 30 minutes late on Friday. Had to meet my boss in PJ earlier in the morning. But this was the best day to be late to Cheras.

If you read The Star today, you would've read about a horrific accident about a lorry smashing into 7 cars after jumping lanes which killed 2. I was there 30 minutes later to watch the aftermath. And to think, if I didn't car pool with Nadia, went to PJ to meet my boss and did some banking TTDI, I would've been in that accident.

That's not the thing that got me all freaked out. The road that the lorry was coming out from (just before it went out of control), is the same road that I take to work everyday! I would've been a few seconds ahead or behind the lorry if it was any other day - either one, I don't think I could've escaped from being dragged into it.

I just cannot imagine that 7 people that day were just treating that morning like any other morning, and then this happened. With only 2 people dying (the lorry driver and a motorcyclist), it is incredible to imagine that the rest survived. If you were to see the van smashed onto the side of the wall, you wouldn't believe it too.

Interested to know what you guys think.

If you were in that situation where the lorry from the opposite direction was breaking through the divider and coming towards you, would the best course of action be:

a. Slam the brakes
b. Accelerate like hell to cut through to another lane
c. Open the door and jump out of the car

  1. Holy crap.

    The things that happened while i was away...

    I just found out my church almost got burnt down. Coincidentally, a fire engine passed by and saw the smoke.

    If not... Bye bye, Grace.

  2. wow, that's scary man.

    I think I would pull the handbrake and do my best to avoid the lorry. because frankly, crashing into another car is way smarter than being trampled by a 10-tonne lorry.

  3. Well, I believe that if God says that your time's up, your time's up. Doesn't matter much if you chose whichever choices. You could very well just have died if you slammed into another speeding car instead of the lorry.

  4. I bet we'll both be chanting our favourite Cloverfield quote:

    "Oh my god, oh, no, no, no!!

    Oh my god, oh my god!!

    God please God, Please God Jesus!

    Jesus Christ, I'm sorry, I'm so sorry God, please no!!

    Oh no!!"

  5. (1) Check side mirror to realise next lane has no space
    (2) Silently swear at the truck
    (3) Bang the horn - might as well go out making some noise =D
    (4) Swerve into the next lane anyways ...

  6. Well, about accidents, a friend of mine in USA recently got into one. Police thought that no one would have survived the crash because the car was hit by another car at 80kmph. The car flew sideways, flew over a ditch and several feet into a corn field.

    She had a concussion, internal bleeding in the head (it has now stopped, no permanent damage), a fractured sternum, a bruised spleen and liver, a fractured elbow and pelvis, and stitches in her other arm. Please keep Rachel in your prayers. Thanks all!

    The fire of the holy spirit?

    @chris
    Exactly what I thought! But not sure if my feet and hands could do it if I was in that situation... Suggested to a friend the other day that we should like a post-it note on our dash reminding us, haha

    @noob
    You forgot the last line: "shiiiiittttttt!!!!!"

    @dasinner
    haha... "might as well make some noise"

    @jordan
    That sounds terrible, sorry to hear about your friend's condition. We just finished our healing rally at church last weekend, and it was quite faith building for me. Will keep her in prayer, but it's a good thing that she didn't suffer permanent damage.
